2024 Pikes Peak Pride Parade

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Pikes Peak Pride took place all weekend long. Thousands of LGBTQ+ community members and allies lined the streets of downtown Colorado Springs for the annual pride parade. People went all out for this year’s parade, and people were feeling the love.

The festival continued on Sunday with a pride parade where thousands participated in decorating their cars, waving flags, and showing their pride.

What began as a parade quickly turned into a wedding for many couples who wanted to declare their love in front of the City of Colorado Springs.

It was all things pride in downtown Colorado Springs.

“We’re about to go and get married,” exclaimed Diamond Lawrence and Asia Lawrence, one of the many couples who tied the knot at this year’s event.

This year’s theme was Unite with Pride, and some community members showed their commitment to one another by tying the knot.

“There’s so much love in the air. This is a huge celebration,” said Shane Brasgalla, another person who got married on stage.

Pride month is dedicated to celebrating all types of people, genders, and love.

“I think it’s pretty special, especially for people who are coming here for their first time. They get to witness other people, you know, get married, whereas maybe, you know, other influences in their life had told them it was wrong…. So now they get to see other people being celebrated for who they are,” added Taryn Hall, who attended the parade.

The Southern Colorado community highlights love in the air by performing multiple weddings and vow renewals, some people are even brought to tears.

For Diamond and Asia, they made it official in front of more than seventeen thousand people. They say they do not have support from their families, so they decided to get married in front of their pride family.

“I knew I wanted to marry her when I first met her, so she did,” said Asia, “I was like, no, you’re not your kidding, but here we are,” added Diamond.

After they found love a few years back Brasgalla says all they need now is each other.

“Maybe you just feel how you feel in the moment, but you just know that love is love, baby, and however you feel as long as it’s genuine, it doesn’t matter who you feel for. If it’s genuine, if is genuine toward each other, that’s all that matters,” Brasgalla.

Even though the weekend’s events have come to an end, Pride Month continues all month long.
