25-acre fire caused by lightning near La Junta

(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — The La Junta Fire Department (LJFD) said at around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, a wildfire was spotted in the Higtbee Valley area south of La Junta.

According to LJFD, the wildfire is burning in steep terrain, an area tough for ground crews to make much progress on, but help from Air Tanker 10 and Air Tanker 164 from Colorado Springs has helped slow progress.
