DENVER (KDVR) —  Aurora police are reminding drivers of the importance of yielding to emergency vehicles after a crash on Thursday sent three firefighters to the hospital.

The Aurora Police Department said the agency has issued a summons to a 20-year-old driver for multiple citations after reportedly crashing into an Aurora Fire Rescue engine responding to an emergency call.

According to Aurora Fire Rescue, at around noon on Thursday, its emergency vehicle was responding to a medical emergency with lights and sirens activated.

Video provided by the police department shows a fire engine making a U-turn. At that time, another vehicle is shown continuing to travel on the road, ultimately hitting the front of the emergency vehicle.

Three firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. However, it is unknown if the driver in the other vehicle suffered any injuries.

“Emergency lights mean someone needs help don’t make it worse by getting in the way…or your car might end up looking like this one,” said the Aurora Police Department on X.

According to the department, a summons has been issued for the alleged 20-year-old driver, identified as Javohir Asrorov, for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, having no registration and no insurance.

This is not the first instance of emergency vehicles crashing into civilians while lights and sirens were activated. FOX31 reported in July on two crashes involving Thornton police vehicles that had active lights and sirens, as well as a Denver Ambulance that crashed and a South Metro Fire Rescue engine that crashed separately with active lights and sirens in May.
