(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — El Paso County Parks Department announced on Tuesday, May 13, that it has received a grant of $30,730 to maintain and purchase new off-road mobility vehicles, or “Terrain Hoppers,” to give guests with disabilities the chance to experience trails previously inaccessible to them.
The grant was awarded by the Colorado Disability Funding Committee (CDFC) for the Trailability Program, which already offers the Terrain Hoppers at Bear Creek and Fountain Creek Nature Centers, to expand into the Fox Run Nature Center.
“We are honored to receive this grant from the Colorado Disability Funding Committee, which will help us expand access to the outdoors for individuals with disabilities,” said Theresa Odello, Division Manager for Recreation & Cultural Services. “These enhancements to our Trailability Program will make nature more accessible and empowering for everyone in our community.”
The trails are one to four miles long and take participants through various foothills and wetland habitats, accompanied by friends and family, as well as a Nature Center volunteer or staff member. Participation in the program is free. Click on the link above for more information.
