4th Judicial DA chief deputy attorney on leave after criminal charge

(EL PASO/PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — A Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office (DA’s) chief deputy attorney has been placed on administrative leave due to a criminal charge.

According to 4th Judicial District Chief Communications Officer Kate Singh, chief deputy attorney Andrew Steven Vaughan was placed on administrative leave in late December.

Court documents show that on Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25, Vaughan was charged with one count of Criminal Mischief $2,000-5,000.

“The criminal investigation and review for filing of charges has been assigned to the Pueblo District Attorney’s Office as a special prosecutor, pursuant to CRS 20-1-107,” said Singh.

Vaughan will remain on unpaid leave “pending solution of that review and potential prosecution.” According to Singh, the next steps will be determined based on the outcome.

Vaughan is set to appear in court for a hearing on Thursday, March 27.

The 4th Judicial DA’s Office serves El Paso and Teller counties.
