(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identity of a woman killed in a crash on the evening of Saturday, May 25 in the Briargate area.
According to CSPD, officers originally responded around 9 p.m. to a two-car crash at the intersection of Briargate Parkway and Chapel Hills Drive. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, CSPD said.
The investigation revealed that a car was heading eastbound on Briargate Parkway and approaching Chapel Hills Drive when a second car, heading westbound, turned left onto Chapel Hills, colliding with the oncoming car.
The driver of the second car, identified as 53-year-old Maroufeh Kazemi, was taken to the hospital where she was declared dead.
CSPD said the investigation is ongoing, however, speed is considered a factor in the crash. This was the 20th fatal crash in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had been 19 fatalities.
