(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — Early Saturday morning, June 22 a group of local advocates for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers met at Manitou’s famous hike, the Incline, to raise money for the cause. The Incline is a 2,768-step hike.
“The hike this morning was wonderful,” said Teal Peabody, Development Manager, Walk to End Alzheimer’s Colorado Springs & Pueblo Alzheimer’s Association.”
The group hike went from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. and was sponsored by The Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and resources to help those living with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.
The hike is called the “Suncline” to commemorate the longest day of the year (the Summer Solstice) as a way to also honor caregivers, who spend long days caring for loved ones with dementia.
Peabody told FOX21 that a team from MorningStar at Mountain Shadows raised “over $5,000 to help with Alzheimer’s support groups, education, helpline and research to help find an end to all dementias.”
