Mini horse hitches ride in Animal Control Officer’s truck

(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — A mini horse found her way home thanks to a dedicated Animal Control officer who had some unique ideas on how to transport the hooved escapee.

Teller County Animal Control (TCAC) Officer Trixie Hudspeth told FOX21 that she responded to the lost horse on Tuesday, Feb. 27, but didn’t know where the horse came from or who she belonged to.

Officer Hudspeth met up with a brand inspector (a livestock employee responsible for verifying the proper ownership of cattle, horses, mules and donkeys) to figure out who the little hooved bandit was, when they ran into a snag.

“[The mini horse] won’t fit in the truck topper and a trailer can’t go down the road with the mud and no place to turn a truck around let alone a truck with a trailer,” said TCAC in its Facebook post.

And here is where the horse’s slight size helped in this particular instance–Officer Hudspeth was able to put her in the back seat of a truck!

The mini horse, named Buffy, went for a trip in the back seat of the truck and enjoyed some selfies with Officer Hudspeth. Buffy’s owner was located, and funnily enough, the little horse was transferred to the back of another truck for her trip home.

“She fit perfect in the back seat and was a perfect passenger,” said Hudspeth. “I love my job!”
