Motorcyclist killed on Academy near Woodmen Road

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash on North Academy Boulevard just south of Woodmen Road in February.

CSPD said officers originally responded to a crash involving a car and a motorcycle shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, at the intersection of Academy and York Drive, just south of Woodmen Road.

CSPD said when officers arrived, the motorcycle rider had already been taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries. On March 5, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist as 43-year-old Jacob (Jay) “Kingpin” Munson.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, CSPD said.

This is the 11th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had also been 11 fatalities.
