Stolen firearm found during shooting investigation

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A victim was taken to the hospital and a stolen handgun was recovered during a shooting investigation, according to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD).

PPD said on Sunday, March 17 at around 10 p.m. officers were called to the 1200 block of East 10th Street near North Kingston Avenue about shots fired in the area. PPD was able to locate the scene with the help of the Shot Spotter system of audio detectors.

When officers arrived, they saw several suspects in a red car shooting into a group of people, and police began a pursuit.

Police found the red vehicle at an apartment complex near the 2200 block of East 12th Street, which was confirmed stolen. Officers then contacted several people in an apartment, and during a search of the apartment found two handguns and an AK-47 rifle. One of the handguns was confirmed stolen by police.

PPD found one person injured at the original scene, with a gunshot wound, who was later taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There have been no arrests at this time and PPD is investigating the shooting.
