(AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.) — A parade honoring the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) Class of 2024 cadets was held on Wednesday, May 29.
According to USAFA, the event symbolizes the assumption of command by the second class, and during the parade, the graduating class marches away from the Cadet Wing as they pass their command to the rising Firsties. During the parade, there were flyovers from various aircraft and demonstrations above Stillman Parade Field at the USAFA.
According to USAFA, the parade featured flyovers from cadet-piloted T-41 and T-53 propeller aircraft, and cadet-piloted TG-15 and TG-16 gliders. The cadet-piloted gliders also performed two high-speed passes before landing on Stillman Parade Field.
Also as part of the demonstrations on Wednesday, there was a flyover by a B-2 Spirit Bomber from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, and 25 members of the Wings of Blue Parachute Team jumped from aircraft piloted by officers of the 306th Flying Training Group.
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will be flying over the USAFA, and tagging along with them will be five-time Olympic medalist swimmer Missy Franklin-Johnson at around 2 p.m.
