(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The El Paso County Coroner has identified the victim of a shooting south of Motor City on Thursday, May 23 that left roads in the area closed for hours.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the coroner has identified the victim as 45-year-old Darryl Edward Scurry Jr.
Officers originally responded shortly after 6 a.m. to South Nevada Avenue near the southbound I-25 off-ramp on a report of shooting. When they arrived, officers found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On Friday, May 24, the El Paso County Coroner identified the victim as Scurry. While the coroner will determine the official cause and manner of death, Scurry’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
This is the 20th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had been 11 homicides.
CSPD said no suspect has been taken into custody as of Monday, June 3.
