(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) said crews will soon begin the last segment of its undergrounding for electrical lines on Nevada Avenue completing a project that started in March.
Springs Utilities said the project will connect nearly a mile of electric infrastructure that has already been installed underground. The Nevada corridor is a critical part of Springs Utilities’s infrastructure and a windstorm in December 2021 showed the importance of proactive measures to safeguard electric infrastructure, according to Springs Utilities.
The project started in March and has been consolidated to turn lanes and residential roads but will soon move to the intersection of North Nevada Ave. and East Fillmore Street.
Construction begins on Aug. 5 and will run to Aug. 19 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Springs Utilities said the hours are to minimize the impacts to area businesses and rush hour traffic.
Springs Utilities encourages the public to continue to support area businesses while work on the project continues. The public is also advised to drive with caution as crews will be working in a small area near the center of the intersection and will move their work zone and traffic control regularly.
