(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identity of the motorcyclist who was killed in a crash in a parking lot near East Woodmen Road on Saturday, July 27.
CSPD said 31-year-old Charles Velasquez died after losing control of his motorcycle while attempting stunts in a parking lot in the 6800 block of Crest Hill View, southeast of Woodmen Road and I-25.
CSPD said officers originally responded to the parking lot around 9:56 p.m. on Saturday, after a report of a single motorcycle crash. When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found the motorcyclist dead.
The CSPD Major Crash Team responded, and the crash investigation revealed that Velasquez was trying to perform tricks on his motorcycle when he lost control, rode over a curb, through a concrete sound barrier, through a wooden fence, and hit a tree in the backyard of a home.
According to CSPD, this is the 32nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had been 27 fatalities.
