(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — In response to the heavy fire activity in northern Colorado, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is inviting the community to attend a special event to speak with emergency response personnel and learn how to be prepared for a fire or other emergency.
CCSO posted on Facebook on Thursday, Aug. 1, and addressed the current fire danger for residents of the area. CCSO said the sheriff had convened with fire chiefs from Wet Mountain Fire, Wetmore Fire, the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC), the U.S. Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management Fire to discuss fire restrictions.
CCSO said the consensus between fire chiefs was that fire restrictions were not yet necessary in Custer County, though they will continue to monitor weather, humidity, local fire conditions, and the availability of fire resources to the county. As the long range forecast for August appears hotter and drier, which will increase fire danger, community members will need to be prepared for anything.
For that reason, CCSO is hosting a special event on Tuesday, Aug. 6, with numerous emergency professionals on site. The emergency manager will be in attendance to educate about mitigation, as well as Wet Mountain Fire Protection District and DFPC fire personnel.
Attendees can bring their phone to the event for help getting signed up for emergency notifications through Everbridge, or you can sign up any time by clicking here.
The event will take place from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Hermit Park in Westcliffe.
