Pedestrian involved in fatal crash on St. Elmo identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department reported on Friday, Aug. 23 the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian who was involved in a fatal crash at South Nevada Street on Monday, Aug. 5.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Monday, CSPD was notified of a crash involving a pedestrian and a car at the intersection of South Nevada Avenue and East St. Elmo Avenue.


CSPD: Pedestrian killed in crash while crossing St Elmo

The CSPD Major Crash Team responded and assumed the investigation, which showed that the pedestrian was crossing northbound when they were hit by a westbound car. The driver remained on scene, and CSPD said speed and impairment are not contributing factors.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. On Aug. 6, the Coroner’s Office identified him as 55-year-old Charles Stoner.

This is the 37th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 29 traffic fatalities. In the last 365 days, there have been 58 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
