(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identity of a man killed in a shooting that also left three others injured near Airport Road on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
According to CSPD, the El Paso County Coroner identified the victim as 42-year-old Leroy Pruitt Jr. While the coroner will determine the official cause and manner of death, Pruitt’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
Officers originally responded to a reported shooting just after 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 to the 300 block of Ellers Grove, in a neighborhood west of Airport Road and South Powers Boulevard. When they arrived, officers found three people with gunshot wounds. One of them, Pruitt, was declared dead on scene. A fourth person with a gunshot wound was found in the 400 block of Flyway Point.
CSPD said everyone involved in the shooting is accounted for. This was the 27th homicide in the city of Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had been 18 homicides.
