Almost 800 animals at HSPPR seeking their forever home

(EL PASO/PUEBLO COUNTIES) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is asking for help as shelters are currently housing almost 800 animals waiting for their ‘fur-ever’ home.

HSPPR is asking for the community’s support in adopting a pet. A spokesperson with HSPPR said they have more than 790 animals — in shelters and foster homes — that are awaiting a new chance at a new place.

According to the Humane Society, kennel space at the shelter is starting to run low and its current foster homes are filled too, with more than 50 animals currently on its waitlist for fostering.

For those who are not looking to adopt but still want to help, HSPPR is seeking foster families who can welcome any animals who may need a little extra time to heal or grow before they can be adopted. Animals that fit under this criteria include; pets who are pregnant or nursing, underweight or overweight animals, medical cases needing extra time to recover, senior or fearful animals that may be stressed by the shelter environment, and behaviorally challenged animals that may be shy or need more human interaction.

If you are missing a pet at home, HSPPR may have found them. The shelter is an open door for stray pets, and individuals can look online for their lost animals. The shelter also encourages individuals to walk through the kennels in person.
