DENVER (KDVR) — A National Women’s Soccer League, NWSL, team is starting up in Denver, bringing along plans for a new stadium.
The professional women’s league has several teams across the country, and recently announced its 16th team is starting in Denver. Several details about the team, like the name, colors and team crest have yet to be announced, but one aspect of the team is clear: the owners of Denver’s NWSL team are planning on a new stadium.
Despite reluctance from the new team’s majority owner, Rob Cohen, to share details about the new stadium, there have been some hints on what it could look like.
NWSL plans on a new soccer stadium
Cohen said there are plans to build a dedicated soccer stadium for the club, including a purpose-built stadium for professional women’s soccer and a state-of-the-art training facility for female athletes.
“We’d like to build a franchise where every player wants to play here, every coach wants to coach here, every executive wants to work here. And the way that we’re going to do that is by building first-class facilities, in terms of a dedicated stadium,” Cohen said. “We’re willing to make the investments to do that.”
However, as of late January, these plans for a stadium, along with the stadium’s location, haven’t been finalized.
Denver’s NWSL team plans to start in the 2026 season, giving the team about a year to finalize their plans on a playing field.
“The new Denver NWSL franchise is finalizing plans for a purpose-built stadium for professional women’s soccer and a dedicated, purpose-built performance facility for female athletes. More information will be available as these plans are finalized,” a spokesperson for the NWSL told FOX31.
Cohen told the Associated Press that the club was not ready to share further details about the planned stadium and training facilities, including the site. While most of the information on the stadium hasn’t been announced, Denver’s NWSL team is already taking deposits for season tickets to see the club.
