(MONUMENT, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) reported that the shooting that occurred in a parking lot outside of a King Soopers in Monument is now being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide.
According to EPSO, the shooting happened in the King Soopers parking lot on Baptist Road around 12:20 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, when a man allegedly walked up to a car and opened fire on the vehicle. When Monument Police officers and EPSO deputies arrived, they found a woman dead inside the vehicle. EPSO said that witnesses had seen the suspect drive away in a green Subaru.
EPSO stated that around 12:45 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a report of a suicide in the 6000 block of Bundleflower Court, near Dublin and Powers Boulevards. When officers arrived at the location, they found a green Subaru at the scene and contacted EPSO detectives.
According to EPSO, detectives from CSPD and the sheriff’s office conducted several interviews and gathered evidence throughout the night. The investigation pointed to evidence that the incident was between two people who knew each other, it was an isolated incident, and there is no further risk to the community. EPSO said the case is now being investigated as a murder-suicide.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine the identities of those involved, as well as the official cause and manner of death.
