DENVER (KDVR) — Part of Highway 34 in northern Colorado was closed while a bomb squad investigated reports of a pipe bomb in a vehicle.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, at 12:49 a.m. on Wednesday, a trooper stopped a black 2023 Honda Accord for speeding on westbound Highway 34 near milepost 101.
During the traffic stop, the trooper reported seeing evidence of drugs. CSP said the suspect also alluded to having a pipe bomb in the vehicle. The driver of the Honda was then arrested.
The Weld County bomb squad was on scene investigating.
After 6 a.m., it was determined that there was no explosive device inside the vehicle. Investigators are working the case, but final charges have not been determined.
The city of Greeley said westbound Highway 34 and West 10th Street was shut down from Highway 257 to County Road 13.
Highway 34 is closed in northern Colorado due to a heavy police presence (CDOT)
At around 6:16 a.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation said the roadway was reopened to all traffic.
