DENVER (KDVR) — Over the summer, a Colorado man was the first to paraglide across the state through a nine-hour journey, and a documentary coming out filmed the entire trip.
The new documentary, “Wingman,” filmed competitive paraglider Peter Thompson’s years-long mission to fly across Colorado.
Thompson had been trying for years to paraglide across the Colorado mountains, from Durango through Wyoming, but to be able to do that, everything had to go completely right. Thompson had tried twice before, but the weather had shut him down.
Then, in August 2024, Thompson was monitoring the weather and decided to go for it. He paraglided across Colorado, reaching southern Colorado, Mount Elbert and near Glenwood Springs. Thompson posted on his Instagram that he made it 270.6 kilometers, or over 168 miles, in over 9 hours.
Vision Films, Inc. is releasing the documentary, which followed along showing the extremes of the global “bol viv,” a flying and camping competitive sport. The film captures his journey, from camping in extreme weather to hiking for miles to find a launch point.
It also shows Thompson’s views while cruising above 13,000 feet across Colorado.
Soon, the rest of the country will be able to see his journey through the new paragliding documentary. “Wingman” will be available on many television providers and on platforms like Amazon Instant, Apple TV, Google Play and Vimeo starting on April 15.
