Volunteers gather to clean up three parks in three days

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Over the weekend of April 25, Blodgett Open Space, Palmer Park, and Ute Valley Park came together for the fourth annual 3 Days 3 Parks.

Friday, April 25, volunteers were at Blodgett Open Space, on Saturday, April 26, were at Palmer Park, and on Sunday, April 27, were at Ute Valley Park.

On Saturday, April 26, cleanup took place at Palmer Park where volunteers worked to remove invasive plants, restore trails, reseed native vegetation, and collect trash. The event at Palmer Park was co-sponsored by Guardians of Palmer Park.

“We’re here to love this place, not damage it, so we try and rebuild it, try to reconstruct as much as we can, make those trails accessible for bikers and hikers,” said Tom Howes, Founder of Guardians of Palmer Park.

On Sunday at Ute Valley Park, volunteers worked to clean up the park, restoring trails and removing invasive species. The event was cosponsored by Friends of Ute Valley Park.

“We have a lot of photographers that like that perfect shot, and you go off trail, and it’s like you’re in a snake habitat, you are in a fox habitat, you’re in a bobcat habitat, you’re in a bear habitat,” said Christine Thomas of Friends of Ute Valley Park. “We have these designated trails for a reason, you can see everything you need to see, just enjoy it without killing our vegetation, because once you walk on it in our environment, it does not grow back.”
