Springs Utilities: New watering schedule begins May 1

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) is reminding the community that it is almost time to shift outdoor watering schedules to prevent unnecessary water waste.

A certain Water Wise rule goes into effect on Thursday, May 1. Starting Thursday, individuals may water up to three days a week. “Customers can still choose up to three days a week to water, but should adjust their weekly watering days each month per recommended landscape watering schedules,” said Springs Utilities.

The rules help reduce evaporation loss and help communities use water responsibly. According to Springs Utilities, the rule helps reduce evaporative loss that occurs if sprinklers are running during the heat of the day. This specific rule is in effect until Oct. 15.

Some other key rules include:

Don’t let water pool on hard surfaces or flow down gutters.

Repair leaking sprinkler system within 10 days.

Use shut-off nozzle when washing anything with a hose.

Clean hard surfaces with water only if there is a public health or safety concern.

“Water Wise Rules help us use water responsibly,” Sprungs Utilities wrote via their website. “We live in a semi-arid climate and our community is growing quickly. By following these rules, we can keep our landscapes vibrant and healthy while also being good stewards of our water.
