Retired movie-star gator ‘Morris’ passes away on Colorado farm

(SAN LUIS VALLEY, Colo.) — Movie star and Colorado Gator Farm’s oldest alligator has passed away at an estimated age of over 80.

Morris the alligator was known for his work in many movies and TV shows from 1975 to 2006, including Happy Gilmore. Morris played the gator blamed for biting off Chubb’s hands.

In 2006, he retired from Hollywood to “live out his days at Colorado Gators,” located in Mosca. Morris’ owners handed him over to the gator farm after they “couldn’t handle him anymore.” The alligator’s real age was unknown, but in 1975, he was around nine feet long. Since then, he’s only grown around two inches according to Colorado Gator Farm.

“He’s probably 80, 90, maybe 100 years old,” said Colorado Gators owner Jay Young via a Facebook post. “…Nobody knows for sure how long they live. Morris was pretty old when he got here, he’s been with us for almost 20 years.”

Colorado Gator Farm explained that Morris hadn’t been eating, “talking,” or lunging at staff. The retired Hollywood star died of old age, Colorado Gator Farm announced on Sunday, May 11.

“While we knew this was inevitable, we are very saddened by his passing to old age,” the post read. “RIP Morris.”
