Illegal marijuana operation, “ghost gun” and narcotics seized in Southern Colorado bust

(SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo.) — The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said deputies following leads from a recent theft of hunting equipment led to the dismantling of a large-scale drug distribution operation.

According to SCSO, deputies gathered intelligence from those in the community that led them to a “large-scale drug distribution operation and significant illegal marijuana cultivation and processing operation.”

SCSO, with the help of a specialized team from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Alamosa Police Department, and Conejos County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant based on the gathered intelligence.

The search resulted in the seizure of:

116.39 grams of methamphetamine

37.03 grams of heroin

425.02 grams or about 4,250 pills of fentanyl

114.6 pounds of processed marijuana

SCSO said the street value of all the illegal narcotics taken off the streets was $164,800.

In addition to narcotics, SCSO said law enforcement found a semi-trailer completely dedicated to illegal marijuana cultivation and processing, including two grow tents and over $100,000 worth of closed-loop marijuana extraction equipment.

Law enforcement found the lower receiver of a handgun kit or a “ghost gun” and other illegally possessed firearms. Several items related to narcotics packaging and distribution, including bags for packaging, were also found.

SCSO wants to thank its law enforcement partners for their help in the operation.
