(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Neither the gloomy skies nor the on-and-off drizzle prevented people from making their way to the streets of Old Colorado City this weekend to check out the 50th edition of Territory Days.
“It started back in around the seventies to honor the old west tradition of old Colorado,” said Marshall David James Cook, a Colorado cowboy.
If you decide to head down before Memorial Day weekend is over, there isn’t much you won’t find, as there are plenty of things for the whole family to do, from axe throwing to carnival rides.

There are also plenty of vendors to shop from, along with live music and, of course, food, where plenty of people were walking around with turkey legs. Joseph from Colorado Springs says it’s one of his favorite food items at Territory Days.
“Top tier, I get them every time, and it’s pretty big too,” Joseph said,
But beyond the funnel cake, some people say what makes Territory Days special is the people. Cook knows all about it when he walks around on the street in uniform, making sure people are on their best behavior.

“When they see us dressed up, it brings a smile,” Cook said. “That to me is everything that we do.”
At Territory Days, there is something for everyone, but the fun won’t last forever. Memorial Day will be the last day before the clock begins counting down towards next year.
