Mountain View Fire near Buena Vista 50% contained as of Friday morning

(CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo.) — According to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the Mountain View Fire, which is burning north of Buena Vista, is now 50% contained as of the latest update on Friday morning, July 11.

CCSO said currently, there are windy conditions in the area, and fire crews are actively on the ground working the fire; there are also air resources assisting in the firefight.

On Friday morning, deputies said while the area is expected to receive some moisture, Friday will be a “no burn day” for all of unincorporated Chaffee County.

“No burning outdoors of any kind is permitted, including smoking,” deputies warned.

CCSO said there have been no reports of injuries or deaths due to the fire, and that its investigators have made notifications to those who lost their homes. “We continue to keep them in our thoughts and will offer services.”

Deputies said that evacuations for the Mountain View Fire have not been lifted at this time.

“If you are in the evacuation area and have not spoken to one of our investigators, your homes are safe at this time,” wrote CCSO. “Please go to the public safety building on Steel Drive for additional resources. We do not believe we can lift evacuations any time soon, but we will keep everyone informed.”

The Mountain View Fire was initially reported as a structure and wildfire just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, in the area of Mountain View Estates. According to Watch Duty, the fire has burned about 60 acres, and the sheriff’s office said two homes have been lost.
