(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a minor found driving a stolen vehicle had eluded police from Denver and Colorado Springs on Thursday, July 17.
According to CSPD, on Thursday at around 6:15 p.m. The Motor Vehicle Theft Unit was advised of a reported stolen Kia Soul near the area of East Woodmen Road and North Academy Boulevard. The driver, identified as a minor boy, and the front passenger, identified as a minor girl, eluded a Colorado State Patrol (CSP) Trooper near that intersection.
A pursuit was started by CSP but called off due to the unsafe driving behavior of the minors. Detectives found the alleged stolen vehicle with both minors at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway and started surveillance of the vehicle.
CSPD said the minors parked the stolen vehicle near Galley Road and North Murray Boulevard, where they got out of the vehicle and started to walk away on foot. Detectives contacted the minors. While the girl was detained immediately, the boy ran from officers, but was caught quickly.
During detectives’ interview with the girl, they learned the boy eluded police in the Denver area earlier in the day, along with CSP.
The boy is facing charges of motor vehicle theft and obstruction. The girl is facing a charge of motor vehicle theft.
