(CAÑON CITY, Colo) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) is alerting the community of a person deemed a Sexually Violent Predator who is living in the Cañon City area.
CCPD sent a notification on Wednesday, July 23, that 66-year-old Robert William Stewart is homeless in the Cañon City area. According to CCPD, on Sept. 4, 2014, Stewart was convicted of three counts of Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child.
CCPD said the information is being provided to the public, pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute 16-22-111.
“Any action taken by you towards a registered sex offender, including vandalism of property, verbal or written threats of harm, or physical assault against this person, his or her family or employer, can result in your arrest and prosecution,” writes CCPD. “You must contact the Canon City Police Department or Fremont County Sheriff’s Office immediately if you believe a crime is being, or will be, committed.”
CCPD is encouraging the public to have open, honest, communication with their children about this issue and to remember the following:
Avoid scary details
Use language that is honest and age-appropriate
Teach them not to harass or visit the offender’s location, home, or yard
Teach them to tell a safe adult if anyone acts inappropriately towards them (creepy, too friendly, threatening, etc.).
