(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released information about the most recent arrest of an 18-year-old suspect on Aug. 22.
CSPD’s Metro Burglary Unit obtained a warrant for a suspect who was a minor while investigating a series of burglaries, vehicle thefts, and weapons offenses in late June. On July 15, the CSPD Burglary Unit sought a warrant for the same suspect, but for a different car theft. The suspect was served during a court appearance, but was released on a personal recognizance bond.
On Aug. 20, CSPD detectives found probable cause to charge the same minor with another car theft. They received a warrant, and an increased bond of $50,000 was issued after the suspect, now 18 years old at this point, was brought into custody and moved to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
On top of the charges for car theft, a separate detective from another CSPD unit obtained an arrest warrant for the same 18-year-old for an unrelated assault with a $10,000 bond. The 18-year-old was released less than a few days later after his bonds were waived at a release hearing.
On Aug. 22, police found yet another car theft done by the same suspect. This time, after requesting another arrest warrant, CSPD detectives asked for an increased bond; the authorizing judge agreed to remove the possibility of bond entirely.
After learning of his warrant, the 18-year-old turned himself in, only to be released again in the following days. He is now waiting for adjudication for over 24 counts of felony and misdemeanor offenses, including Burglary, Motor Vehicle Theft, Assault, Handgun Possession, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, and Criminal Mischief.
