(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A 13-year-old is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a dirt bike crash at an abandoned golf course, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
CSP said on Monday, Oct. 13, at around 5:45 p.m., CSP responded to a crash involving two dirt bike riders, both minors, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were riding on private property. CSP said the minors were riding in an abandoned golf course near Rolling Ridge Road, southeast of Colorado Springs.
A blue Yamaha dirt bike was traveling west on a dirt trail, and a green Kawasaki dirt bike was heading south on the track in the same location. Both bikes went up a hill on the track from different sides, and both dirt bikes became airborne. While the Yamaha was in the air, the Kawasaki traveled under it, and the back tire of the Yamaha hit the head of the 13-year-old rider.
When troopers arrived, both riders were on the ground, separated from their dirt bikes. Both riders were wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the crash. Both minors were taken to the hospital. The 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital via air ambulance and has life-threatening injuries.
