A dash of luck for Jack Quinn’s after stressful St. Patrick’s Day weekend

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The saying “the luck of the Irish” didn’t quite ring true for Jack Quinn’s Irish Pub and Restaurant over St. Patrick’s Day weekend after its credit card processor went down twice in two days. Thankfully, a dash of luck came at just the right time for the beloved, local eatery.

A post on Jack Quinn’s Facebook page recounted the stressful couple of days for staff, but also thanked a loyal customer. According to the social media post, the restaurant’s credit card processor went down at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 (Parade day) and then again on Sunday, March 17 at the same time.

“We were processing offline, and a lot of transactions and all tips were being declined. STRESSFUL,” the post continued. “It also took down our entire point of sale system multiple times. This ended up being a global outage for the processor. Disastrous for us.”

In the same post, Jack Quinn’s warned that some of those credit card transactions did not go through and are still being processed.

“So, if you were here over that weekend and have not seen a charge, but then do get a charge on a different date this is why,” explained the post. “Also, a lot of the tips had to be adjusted and manually entered as they were declined, so this is why you might see a separate transaction on a different date.”

During the credit card glitch on St. Patrick’s Day, according to the post, a customer was seemingly charged $5,444 instead of $37. “Our credit card processor assured us this person was debited this amount and yes, we should refund them,” the post continued. While expecting to speak with an angry customer, it was actually the opposite. The customer stated they had a very large deposit in their account, but there was never a debit.

“This person could easily have kept the $5,444 and not said a single word. Instead, [the customer] drove down from Denver (twice)! to get us paid the money back,” according to the post, which went on to thank the customer. “You have restored our faith in humanity with your kindness and honesty. Forever a VIP at Quinn’s!”

The post also gave a shout-out to the staff for working through the weekend despite the chaos. “We put so much into planning that weekend, but there was no way could we have planned for this. It would have been a disaster for the business if it weren’t for all of your perseverance. What an amazing team, we love our Quinn’s family!”
