(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Three-year-old Kingsley from Colorado Springs received a superhero-themed bedroom makeover from Make-A-Wish Colorado after spending much of his life battling a kidney disease.
“He loves dinosaurs and Spider-Man,” said Kelcey Beckman, Make-A-Wish coordinator.
The room transformation, complete with a hand-painted mural and hundreds of Spider-Man toys and games, was a surprise for Kingsley, who loves superheroes, especially Spider-Man.
“Kingsley has end-stage renal disease, so he has kidney failure,” said Sarah Frank, Kingsley’s mom.
On what seemed like a normal Tuesday, Kingsley enjoyed ice cream at Dave and Buster’s, unaware of the surprise awaiting him at home.
“The heart of what the hope was for Kingsley, since he’s a little peanut, was to really give him a special place,” said Beckman.
Upon returning home, Kingsley was greeted by Spider-Man, who showed him his new room, featuring a basketball hoop, a bed with a ball pit, a slide, and more toys than you could count.
“I just sent them a whole Pinterest board of ideas and kind of just told them to choose what they think is best because I definitely trust their judgment, and I was right to trust it because he definitely loves the room,” said Frank.
The room also includes a hand-painted web mural, created by an artist who spent eight hours on the project.
“I think it will be good for both of us. You know, he’s with me, 24/7. So, for him to have his own space to play and be crazy, he has it,” said Frank.
Kingsley’s new superhero-themed room provides a special space for him to enjoy, offering comfort and joy as he continues his fight against kidney disease.
