DENVER (KDVR) — Another retail chain has filed for bankruptcy and is closing locations in Colorado.
Conn’s HomePlus, the 134-year-old home goods retailer, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday, according to FOX Business. Conn’s has been in business since 1890 and operates over 170 stores in 15 states with its headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas near Houston, per its website.
Now, the company said 70 of its stores will close for good, and six of those will be in Colorado.
Conn’s has listed every store that will close in the U.S. and said they are having an “everything must go” event in-store only.
According to the company’s website, all of the Conn’s locations in Colorado will close.
Arvada – 7360 W. 52nd Ave.
Aurora – 60 S. Abilene St.
Colorado Springs – 345 N. Academy Blvd.
Fort Collins – 120 Bockman Dr.
Sheridan-Englewood – 3950 River Point Parkway
Thornton-Denver – 550 E. 102nd Ave.
The only Colorado location that will remain open is a distribution center in Denver at 2470 Airport Blvd.
In April, Conn’s reported its total revenue declined 7.8% to $1.2 billion, due to a 9.1% decline in total net sales, and a 3.6% reduction in finance charges and other revenues.
This follows the recent announcement that another retail chain will close local stores. Big Lots will close four Colorado stores this year due to a decrease in sales.
In April it was announced 95 Express stores nationwide would close, including three in the Denver area. In June, Walgreens said “changes” to its business could result in hundreds of store closures. Finally, Albertsons Companies released a list in early July of 89 Colorado stores that could be sold in a planned merger between the company and Kroger if approved, most of the closing stores operate under the Safeway brand.
