Alleged incindiary device found during traffic stop

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department has arrested a man after allegedly finding an incendiary device during a traffic stop

Around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, a Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officer stopped a car for vehicle registration violations on North Carefree Circle near Palmer Park. After speaking with the driver, the officer found he did not have a valid Colorado driver’s license.

With no valid registration or driver’s license, it was determined that the vehicle would be impounded. When CSPD searched the car for impound inventory, they discovered a suspected incendiary device. The CSPD called their Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD), which conducted an investigation and took the device for safe disposal.

The driver, Anthony Lopez, was taken into custody for possession of the device and multiple traffic violations and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
