Arrest made in COS shooting, second suspect on the loose

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported on Tuesday, Aug. 20 that it arrested a suspect who was involved in a shooting that occurred in July near Platte Avenue.

On Saturday, July 27, officers were called to a shooting in the 700 block of East Hills Road. Upon arrival, they found a man with at least one gunshot wound, the man was pronounced dead on the scene. On Monday, July 29, the Coroner’s Office identified the man as 52-year-old David Charles Compare, his death is being investigated as a homicide.


CSPD investigates deadly shooting in Southeast Springs

This is the 23rd homicide in Colorado Springs this year, at this time last year, there were 16 homicides.

On Aug. 8, 36-year-old Roger Vargas was charged with the murder of Compare while he was being held at Bent County Jail on unrelated charges.

CSPD is still looking for a second suspect, Victor Carson who is wanted for the murder of Compare.
