Arrest made in Security-Widefield homicide

(SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo.) — According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), an alleged illegal immigrant has been arrested on charges related to the homicide of a man found unresponsive in a car in Security-Widefield on Monday, March 24.

Deputies were originally patrolling Crawford Avenue around 5:45 a.m. on Monday when they spotted a car stopped in the road near the intersection of Crawford and Withington Drive. When a deputy approached the car, they found an adult man unresponsive in the passenger seat. First responders attempted to resuscitate the man, but those attempts were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead.

EPSO said detectives worked into the evening hours and located a potential crime scene on Security Boulevard, and their investigation also led to the identification of 29-year-old Miguel Angel Garcia Hernandez as a suspect. Garcia Hernandez was arrested on multiple charges, including:

First degree murder

Second degree kidnapping

Felony menacing

False imprisonment

According to EPSO, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has verified that Garcia Hernandez is in the United States illegally.

“As Sheriff, I am committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring our community remains a safe place for all who call El Paso County home,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “This case represents an appalling act of violence carried out by an individual who had no legal right to be in our country.”
