At least 8 people injured in shooting after Chiefs Super Bowl rally in Kansas City: police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Several people were shot in Kansas City where crowds had gathered to celebrate the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory with a parade and rally.

Downtown Kansas City was packed with people attending the team’s victory parade, which culminated in a rally. At the conclusion of the rally, there were shots fired west of Union Station and several people were hit, a police spokesperson said.

Police sources told Nexstar’s WDAF at least eight people were injured, and at least one person was in critical condition. The ages of the victims were not immediately clear, but Children’s Mercy Hospital said it had received some patients to be treated.

The shooting happened near West Pershing and Kessler roads in downtown Kansas City. Reporters with WDAF said the scene grew chaotic as people ran following the sounds of gunfire. Multiple people could be seen being carried away in stretchers.

Two armed people have been detained, pending further investigation, police said.

Police said officers are working to clear Union Station itself, and they will release everyone inside the building once that is complete.

“State law enforcement personnel are assisting local authorities in response efforts,” Parson posted. “As we wait to learn more, our hearts go out to the victims.”
