(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has identified the victim who died in a hit-and-run crash in late December.
On Sunday, Dec. 29, CSPD was dispatched to the area of 4500 Edison Avenue, near Platte Avenue regarding a hit-and-run. Upon arrival, police found the victim on the roadway who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle west on Edison.
The investigation later revealed that the bicyclist was traveling west on Edison when it was struck by a car, knocked off the bicycle, and left in the roadway. A short time later, a second car was driving west on Edison Avenue and ran over the bicyclist who was on the roadway. According to police, both cars left the scene before officers arrived.
The man, identified as 55-year-old Michael Pompa, was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
This was the 49th fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs in 2024.
The investigation is still ongoing, both cars have been located but detectives are working on identifying the drivers.
