Black Forest crews put out fire at Flying Horse North temporary clubhouse

(BLACK FOREST, Colo.) — Crews with Black Forest Fire/Rescue (BFFR) responded to an early morning fire in the temporary clubhouse at Flying Horse North Golf Course earlier in August, which started due to a possible electrical failure.

According to BFFR, crews responded just after 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 to a commercial structure fire on Allen Ranch Road, at Flying Horse North Golf Course. When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from a window. Inside, crews found a small fire in the kitchen area. The fire was brought under control with an extinguisher, BFFR said.

Investigators with the Pikes Peak Fire Regional Fire Investigation Unit determined the fire appears to have started behind a sandwich prep refrigerator table, where the compressor, fan motor, and electrics are located.

“The fire patterns found along the rear of the table at the lower portion and along the wall show the fire traveling from the table and up the wall,” BFFR said. “The fire appears to have taken time to develop, possibly from a failure of the components and heating.”

BFFR said some of the damage was mitigated by a water line that ruptured behind the table and helped subdue some of the flames.

In an email sent to members, Flying Horse North stated that while the temporary clubhouse’s structure remains intact, it sustained significant damage in the fire and would require extensive restoration work.

Flying Horse said it does not have an estimated timeline of the clubhouse reopening, and new processes have been put in place for food and beverage service. The restrooms at the clubhouse remain accessible; however, all other clubhouse facilities are closed.

“Despite these challenges, we are committed to maintaining normal daily golf operations, including the scheduled tee times and events at Flying Horse North location,” Flying Horse said.
