(BLACK FOREST, Colo.) — As part of our ‘We Are The Eastern Plains’ week, FOX21 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister checked out a locally owned, southern-style barbecue joint in Black Forest.
According to its website, Firehouse on the Run has been serving some seriously delicious bites, from smoked meats to four house-made barbecue sauces, and don’t forget the slaw, potato salad, and all the fixings.
Matt spoke with one of the Managing Partners, Sean Schickler, on Tuesday, April 2, and of course, was our resident taste tester on site.
“We are coming up on 13 years in August… through the Black Forest Fire and Covid, we’ve been able to stay here because of our local support in the community and that’s what we strive for in terms of authenticity and keeping it local,” Schickler said.
On Tuesday, Schickler gave Matt a restaurant tour and a close-up look at the smoker where all the magic happens. “So one thing that sets us apart from most restaurants is we have full, hickory-smoked everything,” Schickler said, which includes brisket, St. Louis-style ribs, smoked chicken, and even their house-made jalapeno poppers.
Firehouse on the Run is located at 12480 Black Forest Road and more information can be found at the link above, or give them a call at (719) 495-8453.
