Bonded pair of bunnies find home just before new year

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) shared a happy ending to the story of a bonded pair of bunnies that spent Christmas in the shelter.

HSPPR shared the story of Macey and Smoke, a bonded pair, or animals that share such a connection that the shelter cannot imagine separating them. According to HSPPR, Macey and Smoke have a bond that is unmatched, always curled up, playing joyfully, or sharing a snack.

While HSPPR can’t help but adore them, they also felt sad for the two–bonded pairs can be difficult to find homes for. HSPPR said bonded pairs bring double the responsibility and double the cost, and because Macey and Smoke were bunnies, it was more difficult as often people looking for pets tend to gravitate towards dogs and cats.

Macey and Smoke had spent three weeks including Christmas in the shelter, and HSPPR wished they would find a home before the new year.

HSPPR’s wish came true–over the weekend of Dec. 28, Macey and Smoke were adopted and will ring in 2025 in their new home.
