(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City 4th of July Fireworks Committee released a statement regarding the fire that occurred following the fireworks show on Friday night on Skyline Drive.
According to the statement, the committee, which is made up of four volunteers, took “every precaution possible—including stationing extra firetrucks, water trucks, and first responders on-site.” The statement went on to say that despite the precautions, some events remain beyond their control.
The committee expressed gratitude to the first responders who took quick action to extinguish the fire and ensure the public’s safety.
The committee stated that they remain firmly committed to providing a safe 4th of July celebration for the community and are planning to regroup later in the year to explore alternative options, including the possibility of a non-flammable fireworks display or relocating the show to a more contained area, such as Centennial Park or Main Street. “While such changes may mean a less grand spectacle, they may offer the safest path forward for our community,” said the statement.
The committee stated that despite the fire incident, the Free Traditional Hometown 4th of July Celebration at Centennial Park was a great success, and thanked everyone who supported the event.
