(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) said they have arrested a woman they allege abandoned her injured puppy back in April.
According to CCPD, on April 28, police posted a plea to the public to find the owner of a puppy found near a local business abandoned and injured, which was in need of medical attention. CCPD said the puppy was able to get medical attention and made a full recovery.

CCPD received many tips on the identity of the owner and, after an investigation, identified 44-year-old Christin Lewis-Benedetti.

CCPD alleges Lewis-Benedetti injured and abandoned the puppy, and an arrest warrant was issued. Lewis-Benedetti was arrested on June 2 and has since posted bond.
