(COLORADO/MISSOURI) — The Colorado Springs Police Department is working with a Sheriff’s Office in Missouri after a vehicle was found to be connected to a homicide in Colorado Springs.
On Thursday morning, July 24, a deputy with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office in Missouri stopped a car after receiving an automated license plate reader (ALPR) hit on the vehicle’s license plate. The ALPR hit indicated that the license plate displayed on the car was stolen.
The deputy approached the vehicle and contacted a 42-year-old woman. The woman gave the deputy an Arkansas ID and told him that her driver’s license was suspended. The deputy requested that she exit the car, and she opened the driver’s door. At that time, she refused to exit the car, put the vehicle in gear, and sped away.
During the pursuit, they traveled on multiple roads until the suspect made a left turn into the grass while on the on-ramp and drove directly towards vehicles traveling eastbound. The suspect drove through the ditch and went airborne, then it collided with a semi-truck.
The woman’s vehicle overturned, and she was ejected from the car. The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment; however, she succumbed to her injuries.
During the pursuit, the suspect was observed throwing items from the car. Law enforcement personnel recovered the items and found them to contain controlled substances.
The stolen license plate displayed on the suspect’s car was also found not to be registered to the vehicle. An inquiry found that the suspect’s car was connected to a homicide that occurred in Colorado Springs.
“Our homicide investigators are aware of this crash and the vehicle,” CSPD said. “And while the vehicle does have some connections to a homicide case, at this time, investigators don’t believe that the individual who was driving it at the time of the crash is connected to the homicide investigation in Colorado Springs.”
