CASA invites men to volunteer recruitment event on Thursday

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Pikes Peak Region is hosting another “Dudes & Brews” event on Thursday, Nov. 21, to recruit more men to volunteer with the organization.

The event will take place at Bourbon Brothers Smoke House & Tavern, located at 13021 Bass Pro Drive from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. To RSVP, click here.

“In a 12-month period, there are about 800 kids in the Pikes Peak Region who need a CASA volunteer to advocate for their best interest,” according to a press release. “Many of these children are in foster care and about half of these children are boys – boys who need a safe and positive male role model in their lives.”

Men who attend the event on Thursday will enjoy a free drink and appetizers while learning what it means to be a CASA volunteer.

“Young people, regardless of their family situation, are craving guidance, leadership, and a trusting adult who they can lean on,” said CASA volunteer advocate Brian Volk. “Volunteering with CASA gives men the opportunity to change a child’s story, a story that they have had little to no power to write themselves so far.”

Existing volunteers and staff at CASA will also be at Thursday’s event to answer questions and share their personal experiences.

“Boys who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect run a high risk of repeating cycles of violence which often runs generationally through families. CASA aims to recruit more men who can show boys what it looks like to be a safe, respectful, and responsible adult man,” according to CASA.
