(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Court Appointed Special Advocates of the Pikes Peak Region (CASAPPR) is seeking men to volunteer to help boys who have experienced neglect or abuse. They are holding a volunteer recruitment event on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Carter Payne.
CASAPPR is looking specifically for men who are willing to volunteer to help a local boy who is involved in the child welfare system and family court system. These are often foster kids who need a safe, positive male role model. According to CASA, trauma and abuse can often occur generationally in families. CASA wants to recruit more men who can model safe, respectful, and responsible behavior.
The “Dudes & Brews” event will be an informational meeting where men can come and learn what it means to be a CASA volunteer and gauge their interest and ability to help out. Free drinks and appetizers will be served.
“Young people, regardless of their family situation, are craving guidance, leadership, and a trusting adult who they can lean on,” says CASA volunteer advocate Brian Volk. “Men, regardless of their family situation and history, have guidance, experience, and leadership to contribute. Volunteering with CASA gives men the opportunity to change a child’s story, a story that they have had little to no power to write themselves so far.”
Men who want to attend the Dudes & Brews event, or another CASA Volunteer Information Session can RSVP at CASAPPR’s website.
The Carter Payne is located at 320 S. Weber St. in Colorado Springs.
