CC students set up “Free Palestine” encampment

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado College (CC) students have established an encampment of approximately 30 tents on campus, backing the “Free Palestine” movement sweeping the nation. As of Friday, May 3, they have begun their second day of encampment.

The Colorado College Liberation Zone helped establish the encampment and has sent out their list of demands to the CC administration. Among these demands are that the college permanently cancel the Summer Blocks in Israel, end investment and relationships with all arms companies, and end all short and long-term contracts with companies profiting from Israeli Apartheid and Occupation.

The statement from the Colorado College Liberation Zone goes on to say, “Standing in Solidarity with Palestine, today the Colorado College Liberation Zone aims to establish a space for and by the people of this community, rather than the corporate structure of the university. We refuse to let our education, labor, and time be conscripted into complicity with the genocide of Palestinians.”

When FOX21 News reached out to CC, a spokesperson gave the following statement from the leadership team: “When determining how to respond to any demonstration, our number one focus is on the safety and well-being of our campus community. We are also considering the national climate in our response, and we are making a very intentional effort not to escalate. Discrimination, harassment, and physical threats will not be tolerated, and individuals who violate these policies will be held accountable through our conduct procedures.”
