(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) shared with sadness that a retired officer who served with the department for 11 years has passed away.
According to CCPD, Retired Officer Roger Parsons passed away on Friday, Aug. 2. Officers Parsons started serving CCPD on Jan. 1, 1994, and served until Nov. 8, 2005, medically retiring on Oct. 30, 2012.
During his time at CCPD, Officer Parsons served as a traffic crash investigator, motorcycle officer, and on the SWAT Team.
On May 10, 2005, while riding his private motorcycle Officer Parsons was hit by a vehicle attempting to cross Highway 50 which left him paralyzed from the crash. CCPD said while he was in a wheelchair, his mind and spirit remained active.
Services for Officer Parson will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Faith Fellowship Bible Church located at 830 Pine Avenue in Cañon City beginning at 11 a.m. The Church is across from Washington School and CCPD said the school district has allowed for public parking at the school during the event. A procession to Mountain Vale Memorial Gardens will be after the funeral ceremony.
“The CCPD would ask that you keep Officer Parsons’ family and friends in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time,” writes CCPD.
